The G.O.L.D. Diggers was founded 25 years ago by Betty Mabee and the "Golden Nuggets"--a core group of dedicated women. Yvonne Silva, Priscilla Webb and Pam Sullivan were among the "Nuggets" that made G.O.L.D. (Gifts Of Loving Donors) a reality. They hoped that the organization would meet the needs of many small local nonprofits. They realized that a number of children and their caregivers fell through the cracks of the current government and foundation system. They knew that people in San Diego would open their hearts and their checkbooks to meaningful causes that served our community. They also wanted to help older people and youth with special needs, victims of crime, and individuals with vision problems. In the 25 years that ensued, the G.O.L.D. Diggers have donated over $715,000 to local charities. With our contributions in their early years, many of those early donees have gone on to become major organizations serving the San Diego Nonprofit Community like the Monarch School, Just InTime For Foster Youth, ARTS--A Reason To Survive, and Employment & Community Options to name a few.
The G.O.L.D.Diggers' major Fund (and Fun) Raiser is Hats Off to San Diego. Please read more about this wonderful event under the Hats Off tab.
